Since the baby is also present, the mother needs to intake sufficient amount to satisfy the need of both her and the baby. It has been estimated that on an average a woman needs 15mg of haemoglobin. However during the time of pregnancy the need jumps to 30 to 50 mg. iron is very vital for the foetus. It is the only nutrient that the foetus depends on the mother to supply.

Iron supplements are useful. These help in making of energy. Iron tablets which come in the form of ferrousfumarate and many such likes, can also be taken. Iron if taken in excess quantity may result in constipation too. Hence the best thing to do is to consult a doctor and request him to draw a diet chart for the mother. Each individual is different hence the doctor needs to check separately. Always remember self medication is dangerous.
